"Great Lakes Energy members help to enhance the quality of life for people in our communities through the People Fund. Bills of participating members are “rounded up” to the next dollar amount and grants are awarded to non-profit organizations and charitable activities throughout our service area. Grants are awarded by three independent Boards of Directors representing three geographical regions – south, central and north. There are no overhead costs – 100 percent of the money collected is returned to our communities."

Library Receives Montcalm Panhandle Community Fund Grant

 The Timothy C. Hauenstein Reynolds Township Library has received a grant from the Montcalm Panhandle Community Fund to start an upcycling program for Teens/Adults.  

The project is to teach teens to use critical thinking and to be open- minded.   They will have use critical thinking to formulate a plan to convert waste materials into something artistically appealing and useful.  They will have to be open- minded to think past the appearance of useless products in order to turn them into new products of better quality or a higher environmental value.  The teens will have to use a multitude of skills like math, reading and artistic abilities to finish projects.  This program will teach teens to think creatively and examine what they throw away in their daily lives that could be upcycled to extend the lifetime of those things otherwise known as junk.

The term Upcycle is generally a reinvestment in the environment. In the simplest terms, upcycling is the practice of taking something that is throwaway and repurposing it into something of greater utilization and intrinsic worth, in its second life.

This program will be an ongoing program starting January 29, 2013 at 4:00pm.  They will continue to make projects and have a mini Art Fair this summer during the summer reading program.
